Pig Floyd’s Barbakoa, currently an exclusive of the hip Mills/50 area, announced Wednesday they are opening a new location in Lake Nona, tentatively planned for the first quarter of 2017.

The new location will see the popular barbecue joint expanding to an area that includes a vastly different clientele and surrounding family of other eateries — some of those noted in the press release include Graeme McDowell’s Nona Blue, Makis Place, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Panera Bread, and Piazza Italia.

Pig Floyd’s owner, Thomas “Tito” Ward, said the expansion would offer an exciting opportunity to get their unique cuisine to a new subset of customers.

“I selected Lake Nona to compliment the local culinary scene and Lake Nona region and community,” Ward said. “The opportunity to grow our brand and introduce international barbakoa (barbecue) to a growing central community was important to me. Lake Nona offers a real sense of community and we’re excited to call Lake Nona home.”

Tavistock Development Company said Pig Floyd’s was part of the company’s commitment to local and home-grown food — things hungry consumers couldn’t get anywhere else.

“Pig Floyd’s is the latest example of our commitment to attracting homegrown, limited-unit concepts to Lake Nona that offer great food and exceptional dining experiences,” said Skipper Peek, vice president of commercial sales and development with Tavistock.
