Accountant and former Orlando City Commissioner Phil Diamond was elected Orange County Comptroller Tuesday night to succeed Martha Haynie, who has held the post 24 years.
Diamond defeated former TV news reporter Keith Landry, who had campaigned on bringing his journalism watchdog skills to watching the county’s money up close.
But voters preferred the experience and professional accounting skills of Diamond, who had received Haynie’s endorsement. He received 55 percent of the vote to Landry’s 45 percent.
Both are Democrats. But no one else ran, so the primary election was open to all voters and final. Diamond wins election.
