Orlando RisingPark notes: ‘Star Wars’ show closing date / Space 220 delay? / Valentine’s Day at Icon Park John Gregory 02/10/2020 Disney World, Other Theme Parks The “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” stage show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will close for good on Feb. 22, according to Spectrum News 13 reporter Ashley Carter. Disney had confirmed the show was ending last week, but had not specified a date. Carter reported that the Feb. 22 date is truly the final act for the show, as it will not be relocated to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or any other section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The stage show features live characters and clips from the entire “Star Wars” saga — unlike Galaxy’s Edge, which is firmly based in the more recent sequel trilogy. It has been running in front of the Chinese Theater since April 2016, back when the park needed more attractions, as older rides had been closed and Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge were under construction. The closure comes just before the March 4 opening date for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which will be located in the Chinese Theater. Space 220 rumored to be delayed — again Epcot’s space-themed restaurant, Space 220, may not open until April 6, according to rumors reported by multiple theme park blogs. According to The DIS and Theme Park Tourist, the reason behind the latest delay is due to a large pane of glass breaking. Because of the size and shape of this custom-made piece, the sites reported, fabricating a replacement pane will take several weeks. First announced at the 2017 D23 Expo, Space 220 will offer faux views of dining high above Earth thanks to large screens wrapping around the interior. The entrance will be located next to the Mission: Space attraction. The restaurant was originally supposed to open by the end of 2019. That initial date was pushed back after the restaurant’s executive chef left unexpectedly to take over his former position at Sinatra at Wynn Las Vegas. Valentine’s Day packages available at Icon Park The Wheel at Icon Park along International Drive is offering two romance-themed packages all February to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
