With the potential of a monster hurricane hitting Florida beginning late this weekend, the University of Central Florida has moved up this week’s home football game against the Memphis Tigers.
The game was scheduled for Saturday at 8:00 p.m., but UCF officials announced it will now be played on Friday night. Kick off at Spectrum Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m. Parking lots and the stadium will open at 5:00 p.m.
“The best option for ensuring this game is played is to move it to Friday night,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White. “With travel considerations, we had to make that decision today (Tuesday). I thank the University of Memphis and the American Athletic Conference for working with us to keep safety our top priority while finding a way to play this game.”
While the game will be played, several activities surrounding the game will not take place. All Family Weekend events have been cancelled.
In addition, no tailgating will be permitted in any campus lot. With first responders likely to be deployed for events surrounding Hurricane Irma, sufficient resources would be unavailable to staff tailgating areas.
UCF is not providing refunds for those holding tickets, but unable to attend on Friday. They are allowing unused tickets to be exchanged for the October 14 home game against East Carolina. Fans are invited to call 407-823-1000 to exchange tickets or obtain more information.
