The Tampa Tiger Bay club is hosting a debate for the candidates in Hillsborough County Commission Districts 1 and 6 on Oct. 14.
The candidates in District 1 are Republican Sandy Murman and Democrat Jeff Zampitella. Murman, the incumbent and current Chair of the Board, is a longtime resident who has served on the board since 2010 and contributed to a multitude of other organizations.
Zampitella is her challenger, an international airline pilot who has called Tampa his home since 2004. He boasts that many of the skills he’s accumulated as a pilot, among them calm, logical reasoning and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life, would also go well with public life.
In District 6, Democrat Pat Kemp and Republican Tim Schock will face off. Kemp, an attorney, was the chair of the Hillsborough Democratic Party and has also worked with the Board of Tampa Crossroads for Veterans and Homeless.
Schock is a small business owner and has put together strategies for the transportation, communications, and technology industries as well as the public sector. He was also appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to serve on the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council.
