Eric Rollings gains Darren Soto’s backing in Orange County Commission race Scott Powers 05/07/2018 Our Politics Eric Rollings has received the endorsement of Democratic U.S. Rep. Darren Soto in the race for the Orange County Commission District 3 seat, Rollings campaign announced. Soto is the first Floridian of Puerto Rican descent to serve in Congress and has been a strong advocate for environmental protection both in Congress and the Florida Legislature, where he served both as a representative and as a senator. Rollings is chairman of the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District. While Soto was a state senator, Rollings served as Soto’s statewide spokesperson for his bill to ban fracking in the state of Florida “Eric is a fierce champion of the environment and smart growth. He has been a trusted advisor of mine in our efforts to ban fracking, save our springs and push for renewable energy,” Soto stated in a news release issued by Rollings campaign. Rollings is in a battle-royal for the seat, which is likely to open up for an election this year because incumbent Commissioner Pete Clarke is running for mayor. Also in the race are Pete Crotty, Bobby Lance, Gus Martinez, Bill Moore, and Mayra Uribe, all seeking to represent south-central Orange County. “I’m honored to have worked with Congressman Soto to ensure a cleaner environment for Orange County and across the state,” Rollings stated in the release.
