Senate District 13 candidate Dean Asher put out an ad Friday designed to talk up his best qualities, including his integrity and willingness to work across the aisle when necessary, calling himself “the community candidate.”
Asher, as he tells it in the video, is a homegrown Orlando native, a husband, a father, and a small business owner.
“Whether you’ve lived here for generations, or are one of the thousands who have made your new home here, Central Florida is better because of you,” he said.
As the only candidate running with school-aged children and the only one who’s owned a business, Asher says those qualities prove that he’ll have a vested interest in protecting both education and small businesses.
This is his first run for legislative office, and he says up front this isn’t a stepping stone for him — he’ll work to help the residents of his district, not to climb to a higher office.
“I’m a community-focused, independent-minded Republican,” he said. “I won’t hesitate to split ways with my party when it’s the right thing to do. I’ll fight for good-paying jobs, clean waterways, lower taxes and I’ll proudly co-sponsor a workforce anti-discrimination bill to protect our LGBTQ workers.”
Asher is currently running against Democrat Linda Stewart for the SD 13 seat.
