Buddy Dyer celebrates Canvs anniversary in downtown Orlando Staff Reports 08/27/2015 Our Politics Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with dozens of leaders from the community, were in Downtown Orlando on Thursday to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Canvs, downtown’s technology hub. Canvs has supported technology startups in Orlando by providing work space options, mentorship, programming and regular events. One year ago, the collective found its home in the renovated Church Street Exchange building and is now home to more than 75 companies. “Canvs provides a physical and visible home for our tech community,” Dyer said. “You have to have the ecosystem to attract talent and I believe technology is an important part of that ecosystem and Canvs is helping us achieve that.” Portions of ticket sales from the Canvs anniversary gala went to the Firespring Fund, a recently launched nonprofit that aims to fund tech start-ups. On Tuesday, the Orange County Commission unanimously approved $100,000 for Firespring. Canvs board members also announced a second location will be opening in Winter Park in the near future.
