The political committee offshoot of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce on Thursday said it is endorsing five candidates running for judgeships in the fall.
The West Orange Political Alliance, or WOPA, said Adam McGinnis was their pick for Orange County Judge, Group 11, while Amy Carter got the nod in the Group 14 race.
Prior to taking office in 2012, McGinnis became a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator and was an Adjunct Professor at Valencia Community College who taught business law.
Carter is looking to for a seat on the bench after a decade working as a civil and criminal trial attorney. She is running against longtime Judge Wilfredo Martinez in the nonpartisan election.
Group 11 and Group 14 are the only contested Orange County Judgeship races this cycle.
At the Circuit Court level, WOPA is backing former State Attorney Jeff Ashton in the Group 15 race, board-certified appellate lawyer Tom Young in the Group 26 race and Dean Fredrick Mosley in the Group 41 race.
All other judgeships in Florida’s 9th Judicial Circuit Court featured a single candidate running unopposed.
WOPA has previously endorsed Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings for county mayor and Orlando Police Chief John Mina in the race to replace him. The committee has since followed up with contributions to their political campaigns.
