The search for a new general manager appears to be over for the Orlando Magic. According to ESPN, Toronto Raptors General Manager Jeff Weltman has agreed to become the Magic’s President of Basketball Operations.
According to sources with knowledge of the deal, Weltman has agreed to a five-year year contract.
Weltman is the apparent selection after the team also interviewed Milwaukee Bucks‘ General Manager John Hammond. Orlando was definitely interested in Cleveland Cavaliers’ General Manager David Griffin, but were unable to interview him. According to ESPN, the Cavaliers would not grant permission to speak with Griffin about the opening.
The Magic have been in search for someone to lead their basketball operations after they fired Rob Hennigan on April 13. Since that time, Matt Lloyd has served as interim general manager.
