The Greater Orlando Builders Association released its list of endorsements Thursday for the 2018 general election, going with Republicans in every state race but with a party mix in local races.
The association announced it is backing Republicans U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis for Governor, former Circuit Court Judge Ashley Moody for Attorney General, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis for election to that post; and state Rep. Matt Caldwell for Agriculture Commissioner.
In Florida House races, the builders announced their endorsements of Republican David Smith for District 28; and of Republican state Reps. Scott Plakon in District 29, Bob Cortes in District 30, Mike La Rosa in District 42, Bobby Olszewski in District 44, and Rene Plasencia in District 50.
The builders did not announce endorsements in any districts that have incumbent Democrats seeking re-election, or in House District 31, where Republican state Rep. Jennifer Sullivan is seeking re-election.
For Orange County Sheriff, the builders endorsed Orlando Police Chief John Mina, who is a registered Democrat running as an independent.
For the Orange County Commission, the association endorsed Christine Moore in District 2, Mayra Uribe in District 3, and Susan Makowski in District 4.
The builders’ association backed David Grimm in the Orange County School Board District 2 race, and Melissa Byrd in the District 7 race.
For Seminole County Commission, the builders are backing Jay Zembower in District 2 and Amy Lockhart in District 4.
In Osceola County Commission contests, the association endorsed incumbent Commissioner Viviana Janer for re-election in District 2, and incumbent Commissioner Cheryl Grieb in District 4.
