Killer whale Tilikum is suffering “significant” health issues, and trainers are concerned he’s beginning to deteriorate, SeaWorld Orlando said Tuesday.
In a statement, SeaWorld said Tilikum has become increasingly lethargic over the past few weeks. He has a suspected bacterial infection in his lungs that is very resistant to treatment, and veterinarians are focusing their efforts on making him comfortable.
In February 2010, Tilikum pulled trainer Dawn Brancheau into the water, drowning her. The killer whale was prominently featured in the film “Blackfish.”
Orcas live between 50-100 years in the wild.
