As he prepares to run in 2020 for a seat in the Florida Senate, state Rep. Jason Brodeur, a Sanford Republican, has drawn a second Democratic opponent.
Oviedo Democrat Justin Ryan Miller opened a campaign account Tuesday to run in Senate District 9, which is made up of Seminole County and part of Volusia County, according to the state Division of Elections website.
Republican incumbent Sen. David Simmons, of Altamonte Springs, cannot run again in 2020 because of term limits.
Brodeur, who is term-limited this year from the House, is the outgoing chairman of a House panel that oversees health-care spending. He has raised $240,554 for his 2020 Senate campaign and had about $133,000 in cash on hand as of July 31, a finance report shows.
Oviedo Democrat Rick Ashby also has opened a campaign account to run for the Senate seat and had raised $433.
