Environmentalist Emily Bonilla said Monday she intends to hold a formal kick-off event for her campaign in Orange County Commission District 5 on March 30.
Bonilla, a Democrat, is challenging Republican Commissioner Ted Edwards, who was first elected in 2010.
She said in a statement that if elected, she intends to bring a more environmentally-conscious approach to the commission, where business interests often win the day.
“I am running because Orange County is ripe with natural beauty and economic potential. However, the Commissioners continue to approve developments without regard to our infrastructure, economy and environment. I will work to bring common sense back to our government,” said Bonilla.
Bonilla joins two other challengers to Edwards, the uncle of Broward Democratic Rep. Katie Edwards.
Realtor and marketing manager Gregory Eisenberg and Bithlo activist Timothy McKinney are also seeking to knock off the incumbent Republican.
Bonilla’s event is set for 6:30pm to 8:30pm on March 30 at The Porch, located at 643 N Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32801.
