Democratic candidate Dawn Antonis announced she is kicking off her campaign for Florida’s House District 44 seat with an event Saturday morning.

Antonis, from Winter Garden, is targeting state Rep. Bobby Olszewski, a Republican from Winter Garden who won a special election for the seat in October.

Antonis is one of two Democrats who have filed, including Matthew Matin of Winter Garden. A third Democrat, Eddy Dominguez of the Dr. Phillips community, lost the special election to Olszewski and vowed to challenge for a rematch last year, but has not yet filed.

Antonis, 52, has called her 2018 election campaign “Dawn for Florida,” and her event Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. at the Village Inn Restaurant in Winter Garden, “A New Dawn.” She is the first vice president of the West Orange Democratic Women’s Club, and had been active on the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign in 2016.
