State Sen. Darren Soto has won the endorsement of the Laborers’ International Union of North America in his quest for the Democratic nomination for Florida’s Congressional District 9.

The union represents more than a half-million workers in the construction industry, including more than 70,000 public employees.

“Our members are committed to being part of the solution when it comes to growing the economy and delivering jobs – and Darren Soto will help us have a seat at the table,” Dave Brier, Business Manager of LiUNA Local 517, stated in a news release issued by Soto’s campaign. “Darren has worked to protect Florida’s jobs and hard-working, middle-class families in the state legislature, and he’ll do the same in Congress.”

Soto faces Susannah Randolph, Dena Grayson and Valleri Crabtree in the Aug. 30 Democratic primary to run in CD 9, which covers south-central Orange County, all of Osceola County and eastern Polk County.

“I’m honored to stand with the men and women building America every day,” Soto stated. “In Congress, I will make sure that working families have a seat at the table every day. I’ll fight to protect them in Congress and never back down from any fight.”
