Gov. Rick Scott on Friday appointed Danny Gaekwad to the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees for a term running through Jan. 6, 2023.
The India native graduated with a degree in political science from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda before moving to the United States in 1987 and starting a string of businesses over the next three decades, beginning with a convenience store in Orlando that he expanded to a 26-store chain between 1987 and 1995.
Gaekwad is currently the CEO of NDS USA Information Technology, an IT firm, and Danny G Management, which owns and operates hotels and restaurants.
He has previously been recognized by Scott with a “One Million Jobs” certificate of appreciation for his work “in helping Florida job creators add 1 million jobs between December 2010 and December 2015” – a tentpole of Scott’s first campaign for governor.
The Ocala resident also holds a seat on the board of directors for public-private partnership Enterprise Florida, and as an executive board member for VISIT FLORIDA, the state’s tourism marketing arm.
Gaekwad new appointment fills the seat vacated by Clarence Brown, a medical doctor and UCF professor appointed by Scott in 2013.
Executive appointments require a majority vote in the Florida Senate for confirmation.
