A 12-year-old boy visiting from Maryland drowned Tuesday while swimming at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress pool, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

DeShawn Smith, was staying at the hotel with his family, OCSO spokeswoman Jane Watrel said.

Deputies were called to the hotel at One Grand Cypress Boulevard at 12:42 p.m. Witnesses pulled the boy from the pool and performed CPR. Orange County Fire and Rescue took him to Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Watrel said.

Orange County detectives are conducting an investigation.

DeShawn is the second child to drown this week in Orange County. On Friday, Susan Delgado, 2, fell into the family’s backyard pool. She was taken off life support at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Saturday.
