On Friday, Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council are paying tribute to the prisoners of war and those missing in action in the United States military for the national POW-MIA Day.
Held in the City Hall rotunda, cadets from the AFROTC Detachment 159 from the University of Central Florida will hold a symbolic “setting of the table,” where each item on the table represents the commitment to remember the sacrifices made by those in every military branch – Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy.
The featured guest speaker will be retired Capt. Steven Nakagawa. He served 28 years in the U.S. Navy, with six overseas deployments, and was selected as a 2014 Veteran of Influence by Orlando Weekly. He was also designated Orange County’s Distinguished Asian American.
The event will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at City Hall’s rotunda.
