President Barack Obama has named Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara Jenkins as a member of the Member of the Board of Directors of the National Board for Education Sciences.
The National Board for Education Sciences serves to advise the Institute of Education Sciences in expanding fundamental knowledge and understanding of education.
Its goal is also to provide education leaders, parents and students and the public with reliable, unbiased information regarding the condition and progress of education in the country.
“These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles,” Obama is quoted as saying in a press release. “I know they will serve the American people well.”
Jenkins is in the running for 2017 AASA National Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced in March. She was recently named the 2017 Florida Superintendent of the Year.
