State Rep. Amy Mercado has endorsed Tom Keen for Orlando City Commissioner District 1.

Mercado, an Orlando Democrat, was elected in 2016 to District 48, which includes portions of Orlando’s District 1 along State Road 436 and near the Orlando International Airport.

“Tom Keen cares about people,” said Mercado in a campaign announcement. “He will work hard for our neighbors. He will plan ahead for Orlando’s future.”

Mercado noted Keen’s commitment to planning ahead for American citizens relocating to Orlando from Puerto Rico.

“We need local leaders who will advocate for the services residents need,” Mercado said. “Tom Keen has heart. He’s running to help people.”

This is the fifth recent endorsement for Keen, who has received similar praise from the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida, Ironworkers Local 808, and SEIU Florida. Keen’s campaign announced another major endorsement yesterday, from the workers of the Central Florida AFL-CIO.

Keen will host weekend canvassing events Oct. 21 and 22.

He is running against Sunshine Grund and incumbent Jim Gray, who was elected to the seat in 2012.

Voters go to the polls Nov. 7th.
